Murchin Field CL Review

Travel

Murchin Field CL is a well situated off grid site in the west of Pembrokeshire. Found just outside of Marloes Murchin Field is within walking distance of the stunning Marloes Sands beach and more intimate Musselwick beach. If you are looking for an extremely affordable and quiet Pembrokeshire location to enjoy the beach, walking, cycling or plan to visit Skomer Island then we'd highly recommend a stop here.

The beauty of staying at CL sites is that they have a maximum occupancy of 5 units (vans/motorhomes or caravans) so offer an alternative, more relaxed stay than larger sites. It's worth noting that you must be a member of the Caravan and Motorhome Club to use these sites.

As an offgrid site you won't find any EHU available so you'll need to be self sufficient for power. The site is very open so you'll be taking advantage of maximum solar throughout your stay. The site runs North to South lengthways so each pitch can be South facing depending on which side you drive in. You'll also be treated to sea views across the open farm land between the site and the coast on either side. In terms of facilities, you'll find split recycling, a fresh water tap and also the Elsan empty point all along the Northern side of the site by the main entrance. The site generally slopes downwards from East to West however we were surprised how level the top of the field was, which is where you'll be pitching. We didn't use any levelling blocks during our visit. The pitches are well spaced and leave plenty of opportunity for both large motorhomes and awnings without being to close to your neighbour. The pitches are mown grass with small unmown borders to separate them, there is also an unmown meadow in front of the pitches. On arrival, you'll find your name on a wooden post which makes it easy to settle in and start relaxing.

Whilst staying here we used EE for our WiFi which worked but on fairly limited speeds and latency. Our phones on Three also had signal on site, despite it being fairly slow speeds.

From the site there is plenty to keep you busy. You are within walking distance of the Pembrokeshire coastal path from either the North or South of the site. Marloes Sands is an absolutely beautiful beach but make sure you check the local tide times to ensure you have plenty of time to make the most of it. Musselwick Beach was also a nice spot in the evening if you can align it with the tides. It is a short walk along the road and then onto a public bridle way which takes you directly to the way down to the beach. There is no beach at all at high tide here. The site is also around 1.3 miles from Martins Haven which is where the ticket office and boats are for Skomer Island. There is a National Trust carpark at the end of this road closer to the dock if you want to save some time walking.

You can visit the Caravan and Motorhome Club to find more information or to book a stay at Murchin Field CL
